Liverpool Biennial Laser Scan
At SEP we have a reputation for finding unique solutions to problems and for always being prepared to try something new. This has once again been demonstrated when we recently carried out a 3D laser scan of a partially demolished building for the Internationally renowned Liverpool based artist Imogen Stidworthy. The scan has been incorporated into Imogen's project entitled 'By Ours Latitude:53 27' 46.67' N, Logitude: 2 59' 10.35' W , 23rd August 2010' that is part the Liverpool Biennial Exhibition.
By Ours Latitude: 53 27’ 46.67” N, Longitude: 2 59’ 10.35” W , 23rd August 2010 is a sound project created by the artist as a response to Liverpool’s traumatic relationship with housing demolition, the flawed relocation policies implemented in a city marked by economic inequality and all the psychological, physical and social echoes it engenders. The voices of two men whose speech and relation to words are affected by trauma, are accompanied by the sound of New Heartlands redevelopment area - as it tumbles to the ground. Dave Schofield is a veteran of the Yugoslavian war in the Nineties and the current Gulf War; Tony O’Donnell is affected by aphasia, a condition resulting from the neurological upheaval of a stroke. A description of bomb-damaged streets (based on an extract from WG Sebald's ‘Rings of Saturn’) is interpreted by each man in his own way, in a slippage between different timeframes and forms of conflict'.
The Exhibition is at Phase 5, 15 - 21 Seel Street, Liverpool and opens this weekend Sat 18th & Sun 19th Sept 2010 from 12:00pm till 7:00pm
The exhibition then continues Tue 21 Sep – Sat 27 Nov 2010, open Tuesday – Saturday, 2 – 6pm
