//  For almost 25 years SEP has been supplying Engineering and Surveying Services to clients across the UK and Overseas. During this time we have grown steadily to become one of the largest independent companies in our field.
Our head office in Skelmersdale controls over 80 site based staff who are currently working on projects for Major Petrochemical Companies, Utilities Companies, Property Developers, Building & Civil Engineering Contractors, Local Councils, County Councils, Architects and Private Individuals. These site staff are complemented by our in house computing team that produce CAD drawings, calculate earthworks volumes and provide health and safety services and technical support for both our clients and SEP staff.
The broad range of services that we offer are highlighted on our website but if there is a particular requirement that is not shown then just give us a call and we will be happy to provide a solution to your needs.

Liverpool Biennial Laser Scan

by sepltd

At SEP we have a reputation for finding unique solutions to problems and for always being prepared to try something new. This has once again been demonstrated when we recently carried out a 3D laser scan of a partially demolished building for the Internationally renowned Liverpool based artist Imogen Stidworthy. The scan has been incorporated into Imogen's project entitled  'By Ours  Latitude:53 27' 46.67' N, Logitude: 2 59' 10.35' W , 23rd August 2010' that is part the Liverpool Biennial Exhibition.

By Ours  Latitude: 53 27’ 46.67” N, Longitude: 2 59’ 10.35” W , 23rd August 2010 is a sound project created by the artist as a response to Liverpool’s traumatic relationship with housing demolition, the flawed relocation policies implemented in a city marked by economic inequality and all the psychological, physical and social echoes it engenders.  The voices of two men whose speech and relation to words are affected by trauma, are accompanied by the sound of New Heartlands redevelopment area - as it tumbles to the ground. Dave Schofield is a veteran of the Yugoslavian war in the Nineties and the current Gulf War; Tony O’Donnell is affected by aphasia, a condition resulting from the neurological upheaval of a stroke. A description of bomb-damaged streets (based on an extract from WG Sebald's ‘Rings of Saturn’) is interpreted by each man in his own way, in a slippage between different timeframes and forms of conflict'.

The Exhibition is at Phase 5, 15 - 21 Seel Street, Liverpool and opens this weekend Sat 18th & Sun 19th Sept 2010 from 12:00pm till 7:00pm

The exhibition then continues Tue 21 Sep – Sat 27 Nov 2010, open Tuesday – Saturday, 2 – 6pm

An Introduction to the Services provided by SEP (issue 1)

by sepltd

SEP were one of the first companies in the UK to purchase Faro's latest generation 3D laser scanner the Photon 120, and we would like to give you a brief overview of this technology.

3D Laser Scanning or 'HIgh Definition Surveying' as it sometimes known, is perhaps the most exciting and rapidly developing method of collecting survey data. Dense point clouds comprising of literally millions of co-ordinated points are created within minutes, and by using our Faro Photon 120 we are now able to capture data at a rate of up to 1 million points per second. The resulting “point cloud”  looks like a dense, 3D photograph of the surrounding scene, except that each pixel has a coordinated value in the X Y and Z planes.

3D laser scanning can be used to accurately record information for many purposes such as building elevations and streetscapes, complex pipe arrangements at Petrochemical plants, heritage details of ancient monuments, and even details of an accident or crime scene, its function is always the same; to record and enable the transfer of a given “scene” to the electronic computer model for later reproduction and manipulation.

SEP collect somewhere in the region of 300 billion (although they haven’t been fully counted) full colour, 3D points per year which can all be related to OS information should our client require.

If you feel that 3D laser scanning may be able to assist you with a particular survey requirement, or if you would like a live demonstration then please contact Andrew Gaudie our Survey Director on 01695 729835.
